Paint Cumulus
As most of you know I started volunteering at the Sanguinetti House Museum last month. The first week they removed a display from one room and started painting it in preparation for a new display. When I went in this week (almost a month later) only part of 2 walls were done. You know me can't stand to see things put off....so Wednesday Don and I went in and finished it in about 2 hrs. Now it is a nice Cumulus blue awaiting the display of the last big flood in 1916.

Life goes on
I try to enjoy every day to the fullest. This is why we retired, started traveling and settled in sunny Yuma but every once in awhile something hits you up side the head and says "remember to stop and smell the roses, give hugs to everyone you love". This week has been a cruel reminder.
A dear friend from Washington/Yuma left last May to return for the summer to their home in Washington. We just received word last week multiple myeloma has struck. Prognosis is non aggressive treatment 2-3 years, aggressive treatment 5-6 years. He has not made the choice yet but is leaning to aggressive, that means at least 6 months before he will be able to travel so we will tough out the winter season with out him and his wife and hope, pray etc that they will be able to return in 2010-2011 season.
Also a friend who stays full time has been diagnosed with 3rd recurrence of cancer in the neck. She has been doing testing etc for over 4 months. Her original doctor was struck with cancer and had to terminate his practice. About 3 weeks ago they did surgery to insert a stomach feeding tube and pic in anticipation of her not being able to eat when radiation on the neck and chemo was started. She was in much pain and discovered there was an infection in the feeding tube, then after another week or so discovered the tube was not in her stomach. Had surgery again this week to place it correctly. Hopefully she can finally start her chemo and radiation after a follow up in a week.
Then another resident had back surgery a couple years ago. Had much pain after a fall this winter so they removed the metal in her back. Well with in a week or so was still in pain so they did MRI and discovered two additional vertebrates that were bad. Now it is back to Tuscan this next week for surgery and at least 3 months in a brace.
I am so very blessed that I'm just fat and sassy.
I started volunteering this week at the Sanguinetti House Museum here in Yuma. Love Oregon history and was quite knowledgeable so have to start from ground zero on Yuma history (and AZ).

Birthday
My wonderful hubby is taking me to Laughlin to celebrate my birthday this week end. He said he has a special place picked out for dinner Friday, but he won't tell me. Bet it has seafood because I love it and he tolerates it. Hope lights are low so I don't see the blood from his rare steak that I tolerate.
Received many cards already from friends and family. Trudy next door bought me a new billfold because I said mine disintegrated. Thanks Trudy.
Maybe I will remember to take some pictures.

Yuma Weather
Was reminded that I had not update this since May. Only excuse is I have been on Facebook lately and not kept this up.
First of June went to Oregon to surprise daughter Patty on her 40th birthday. Did get to visit some square dance friends and family.
Fourth of July week end Chris and family came over and spent the week end. They now call Yuma "The Frying Pan".
This afternoon we left about 4pm to have dinner about 1 mi from here. To the southwest it looked like a fire with all the smoke. At 4:30pm when we left the restaurant we had the radio on and the dj was doing a remote from a car lot in downtown Yuma. He said we are asking you NOT to come down here. We are having 70mph winds and blowing dust. It started raining on the way home but just poured for about 5 min. By 5pm we were having weather warnings of 5 yes I said FIVE miles per hour on the freeway because of 70 mph winds and blowing dust with visibility 1/2 block. They actually suggested you pull over, keep lights on and foot on brake to have brake lights.
Well we are just going to stay in park and IF it clears and still has lightening watch the show.

May
Today is going to break the triple digits. Did cool off enough last night so we could keep the windows open so guess "summer" is not here yet.
Had a great visit with daughter Chris and her family last week end. Met her neighbor and friends who she plays Mahjong with each week. Quite a complicated game, but I enjoyed watching.

Volunteer
Spent from 7:30am to 2:30pm at Chibola Middle School in Yuma. Five women from our park have volunteered to do health checks on all the students. They needed a sub so I am it.
We do weight, height, blood pressure, eyes, hearing and scolioses (sp). They have been there 3 times and think they will need at least 5 more. I will cover again Wednesday and probably more as people leave for the season.
Then at 3pm 14 of us took a two hour class on hand applique 4 of us were from the above group and really tired by the time we were through.

Busy Week End
Jim and Betty McCollum stopped by Thursday afternoon and we played Marbles and Jokers then ordered a pizz and then played Hand and Foot. Had a great visit catching up on people we both know in Oregon.
Friday had updated our cell phones and YEAH WE JOINED THE 20TH CENTURY.......got off dial up and went to wireless...(well they said something about erthnet...erthlink or etc....any way we are lots faster and hopefully will not be kicked off line as often as we were with the UNNAMED dial up. Don played Texas Holdum and came in second...I played bingo....and visited and complained...no bingo..same as I have done since August.
Today we were on the committee to cook breakfast. Served 140 people from 7:30am to 9:00am. Cleaned up then checked out the park garage sale (here and park next door) only thing I bought was an angle food cake pan.
This afternoon we have the toilet races and both a dance here in the park and the Yuma Festival Square Dance. We will go to the Yuma Fest and catch up with more Oregon dancers who have came down to visit.
